INSTAMEET! Join us in the Dallas Arts District for the Through the Lens Instameet (#InstaTTL) to capture the vibrancy and beauty of the DAD. Saturday, July 29 at 9am in the HALL Arts lobby (2323 Ross Avenue). Coffee & breakfast pastries provided by G Texas Catering.

3 categories – architecture, art, and lifestyle. Winner in each category receives a $50 gift card to Teian at One Arts Plaza, one grand prize winner will receive two tickets to one opening night performance of the 2017/2018 AT&T Performing Arts Center Broadway or TITAS Presents season. Call for Entry

Overview: To support the Dallas Arts District (DAD) and give back to our community, HALL Group is encouraging professional photographers, emerging photographers, mid-career photographers and students to submit images for this exciting project, Through the Lens: Dallas Arts District.

We believe that art makes the world a better place, and that the Dallas Arts District deserves the very best. This project will further articulate the creativity, talent and hard work found in the District. The photographs selected will be featured in a hardbound book. Select chosen photos may be considered for us throughout the HALL Arts Hotel. We need you to help us bring Through the Lens: Dallas Arts District to life.  All gross proceeds will be donated to the Dallas Arts District Foundation.

Through the Lens is open to all artists, from professional, to emerging and student photographers. The challenge is to capture a glimpse of the life and vibrancy that defines the Dallas Arts District. The Dallas Arts District is the largest contiguous urban arts district in the United States. Spread over 20 square blocks, it is the hub of artistic creativity and features award-winning museums, performing arts venues, entertainment merchants, as well as an arts magnet high school.

Juried Exhibition Celebrity Jurors: Honorary Chairman, Mayor Mike Rawlings; Jeremy Strick (Director-Nasher Sculpture Center), Dr. Agustin Arteaga (Director-Dallas Museum of Art), Howard Rachofsky (Philanthropist and Art Collector) and Sam Holland (Dean of Meadows School of the Arts).

Entry Dates: Photographs will be accepted from May 1, 2017 through April 30, 2018. 

Each photographer may submit up to eight (8) high-resolution photographs. There is no fee for competition entry. 

Image size:

  • Each photograph should be sent in a .tiff file and at least 300 dpi at the image’s intended print size. Print size should be noted on the entry.
  • All entries must be identified as follows: LastName_EntryName_size.tiff

Venues: AT&T Performing Arts Center, Booker T. Washington Arts Magnet High School, Cathedral Guadalupe, Crow Collection of Asian Art, Dallas Black Dance Theater, Dallas City Performance Hall, Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas Symphony Orchestra, First United Methodist Church, Klyde Warren Park, Meyerson Symphony Center, Nasher Sculpture Center, One Arts Plaza, Perot Museum, St. Paul United Methodist Church, Winspear Opera House, Wyly Theatre as well as Flora Street and other Arts District street life and events.

Each photographer may decide how to best capture and translate a compelling moment or experience within the Dallas Arts District. Capturing a performance, documenting a social gathering or activity, backstage and behind the scenes, architecture - the choice is the photographer's to best express the creativity and vibrancy of the district. 

Chosen entries will be included in a hardbound publication, reproduced in a coffee table book. The book will serve to catalogue the selected works, each artists’ abbreviated biography, specifications of each work, and highlights of the Dallas Arts District project.

Selected Images:  Each winning photographer must provide, within 10 business days of notification, an abbreviated biography (200 words or less), image title, date, size, process, and date.

Credits: Every selected photographer and photograph will be identified in the book.
